About Tate Construction

Built by Experience, Driven by Accountability

Tate Construction was founded by Justin Tate on a belief that education, hard work, and firm but fair compassion are the keys to a successful construction project.  Compassion is not typically associated with the contracting world, but Tate believes that is the problem.

Compassion does not mean being emotional and a proverbial door mat, but rather compassion is what allows a contractor to put themselves in the shoes of the customer, or the subcontractor, or the employees.  By understanding and seeing the points of view of those around you whom you’re interacting with, a contractor is able to predict and accommodate concerns of their teammates before they become issues.

Justin Tate’s construction experience didn’t begin in an office or classroom — it began on job sites at an exceptionally early age, learning the trade through hands-on work, responsibility, and real-world problem solving.

Born into a military family, Justin spent his early childhood moving throughout the world before his father retired from the Air Force and the family settled in Winfield, Kansas. While only in the sixth grade, Justin took his first two paying jobs mowing lawns and delivering newspapers.  He would continue doing these two jobs until graduating high school.During the summer before seventh grade, he picked up his third job and began working for a local rental property owner with a portfolio of over 20 homes. What started as only a summer job painting the houses between tenants quickly evolved into much more. This job continued during the school year and didn’t stop until high school graduation.  If you’re keeping track, at this point Justin is now full-time student, has three steady paying jobs, and by the way, is a two-sport athlete, all while only in middle and high school.Within only a couple of years, the painting of houses progressed to drywall and window repairs to plumbing fixture replacement, porch and deck repairs, roofing work, concrete work, and eventually ground-up new construction projects.  During this time, Justin worked alone, unless he needed assistance specifically with placing concrete or hanging roof trusses.

By eight grade he was given purchasing power by his employer, was expected to pull his own permits with the City, and hired any day workers needed for helping with project specific tasks.By the time he was in high school, construction had already become more than a job — it was a discipline built around self-reliance, accountability, and work ethic. After high school, Justin attended Pittsburg State University, earning his Bachelors of Science in Construction Engineering Technology along with an Associate’s Degree in Mathematics. During college, he continued working multiple jobs simultaneously, including gaining field experience through an internship in between and after classes with Crossland Construction (a commercial general contractor just recently named the 50th largest general contractor in the US).As a Field Engineer Intern with Crossland Construction, he worked across multiple trades including surveying, earthwork, concrete formwork design and concrete placement, and structural steel erection. After graduating college, Justin accepted a position as a Project Engineer with Lusardi Construction in Southern California.

There he gained firsthand experience with tilt-up concrete construction, estimating, subcontractor procurement, submittal and RFI management, and coordination between owners, architects, engineers, and field teams.Justin later advanced his construction career by joining Jaynes Corporation of California, where he managed projects across both private and public sectors. It was there he gained experience working for large sophisticated public agencies and organizations such as the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC), the Port of San Diego, various educational institutions throughout Southern California, and private high-end custom residential construction in La Jolla.

After transferring to Albuquerque in 2012 with Jaynes Corporation, Justin managed notable New Mexico projects including projects for the Institute of American Indian Arts, HME Specialists, and the largest commercial construction project built in the state of New Mexico in 2015, The Blake at Taos Ski Valley. In 2017, Justin left Jaynes Corporation for the first company he founded, Heritage Home Solutions, LLC, renovating and repositioning residential properties throughout the Albuquerque Metro. Over the past decade, the company has successfully completed more than 40 residential redevelopment projects, providing extensive real-world experience in procurement, design, budgeting, scheduling, and residential subcontractor management.

Today, Justin brings together decades of hands-on field experience, formal construction education, commercial project management expertise, and residential redevelopment knowledge through Tate Construction Company. The company was founded on a simple belief: construction shouldn’t be burdensome for clients, they deserve an experience built on clear communication, disciplined planning, and accountability from start to finish.
